Club Meeting Last Evening
Denis Miller opened the meeting and welcomed three new members, Bob Karr, Dewey Rettinger and Naomi Rettinger.
The minutes from the January meeting were read by Barb Fromherz and approved by those present. The treasurer, Reed Barker provided the treasurer's report which was approved by those present.
Kathie Dalton gave us a Show Committee report. She said tables were going fast and if you are planning on having a table it would be a good idea to reserve it soon. Kathie is looking for volunteers to help set up and tear down. If you are willing to help with these tasks please let Kathie know.
There is still a need for items for the Show raffle and auction. Please give items to Kathie as soon as possible.
The Show and Tell was presented by Don Curry with the assistance of Denis Miller. Once again the items shown were fine examples of the talent we have in our club. On display were items from:
It was nice to see the great carvings.
The wood draw was conducted by Jack Dalton. There was a lot of good wood up for grabs.
Mike Reifel
Mike Reifel provided us with a great presentation about knife manipulation. He talked about basic cuts and how to best hold and use a knife. Mike started by demonstrating how to relax and exercise the finger, hand, wrist, and arm muscles. He showed us how to make a cut by using leverage. We learned about power and stop cuts, drawing a knife towards the thumb, chip cuts, and how to use a skew. It was a great presentation of value to new and experienced carvers alike.
And of course the treats were outstanding with lots of baked goods and ice cream.
