Capitol Woodcarvers
Featured Carver
Capitol Woodcarvers is proud to present our 2025 Featured Carver
Jack Dalton
It is Capitol Woodcarvers privilege and distinct pleasure to recognize Jack Dalton as our Featured Carver for 2025. Jack is an accomplished carver, and valued member of Capitol Woodcarvers.
Jack is a past club president and he continues to volunteer in support of our club.
Jack's' favorite medium to carve is Cottonwood Bark, but he also utilizes other mediums such as Basswood, Black Walnut, and Butternut. He is also trying to improve in pyrography. One of the things Jack likes most about Capitol Woodcarvers is the willingness to share techniques and ideas with each other, just learning, and the many classes our group makes available to its members.
Jack became involved in woodcarving when he first volunteered for the Salem carousel about 15 years ago. Since joining the Capitol Woodcarvers he has served as President of the club for 2 years as well as VP for one year. He has been a Member at Large since he completed those offices. He has been the Chairman of the State Fair show for about 6 years and has always enjoyed trying to entice people to try their interest in our hobby.
Jack and his wife Kathy were the owners of two businesses in Salem before they retired. He has a daughter living in the area along with her family of husband and two wonderful grandchildren. His son and wife live in Whitefish, MT. Jack spent nearly 5 years in the Navy as an Air Traffic Controller serving in both Corpus Christi, Texas and Iceland.
Jack wants to thank all the wonderful carvers who have been an inspiration to his improved carving. Jack thinks that anyone with an interest in carving would enjoy being a part of our growing family of carvers. Novices as well as experienced are always welcome! Jack invites and encourages you to learn more about our group at our website: https://capitolwoodcarvers.org.
