Club Meeting Sep 26, 2017
President Denis Miller called the meeting to order at 7:00PM. There was a good turnout and the treats were excellent. There was one visitor in attendance and there were no new members present.
The minutes of the last meeting and the treasurer's report were read by Reed Barker and Ray Weekly and approved by those in attendance.
Bob Curtis gave a report on the upcoming ornament sale November 3 and 4 at the Rickreall Fairgrounds. Several carvers donated ornaments at the meeting but many more ornaments are still needed. Ornaments can be given to Bob Curtis, Don Fromherz, or Denis Miller any time between now and our October meeting.
Everett Koontz reported that the 2017 Or Rendezvous was a great success with over 70 carvers participating. Everett thanked everyone involved in making this Rendezvous the best.
Kathy Jensen reported that the Coastal Carvers Annual Show in Lincoln City is approaching fast. Table sigups are now available. She reported that the Show will be at the same location as in the past but the banquet will be held at a local school. This move was necessary to reduce costs.Don Fromherz reminded everyone that the annual November Club elections are coming up. Nominations should be submitted to Don.
Everett Koontz talked about the ornament exchange with Tri Cities. He requested that those who wish to participate contact him about the event. Everett said he needs 20 participants in total.
Frank Campbell and Don Fromherz conducted the show and tell. There were exceptional carvings on display. The show and tell alone is a good reason to attend our meetings. It is amazing what is displayed. The following carvers had items on display:
Apologies to anyone I missed who had items in the show and tell.
Donna Miller presented an excellent program explaining about wrinkles and folds in carving. Her presentation was outstanding and included discussion about extending, bending, twisting, and rotating wrinkles. She talked about cause and effect and dynamic wrinkles. Donna showed two examples of a bear typical of the bears we often carve. One bear had clothes on and the other bear had clothes with wrinkles. The difference was very apparent, the bear with wrinkled clothes looked much more dynamic and interesting. So, next time you carve a caricature or anything with clothes make sure to refer back to Donna's presentation.
Donna recommended a book from our library for those wanting more information regarding wrinkles and folds. The book is "Dynamic Wrinkles and Drapery" by Burne Hogarth.
Jim Boatner conducted the wood draw. Thank you to everyone who donated the cottonwood bark, basswood, and more.
The meeting adjourned at 8:20PM
