Recently, five Capitol Woodcarver Club members(Chuck and Cheryl Ayres, Mary Davis, Jim Harris and Don Fromherz) Attended a four day workshop with Desiree Hajny. Deseree is a nationally recognized, multi award winning woodcarver/sculpturer. Her teaching style emphasizes original design with correct animal anatomy.

Participants start with a nondescript basswood block and a topic (jaguar). They must design their animal pose and the habitat upon which the animal is placed. Once the carving is completed, it is painted utilizing a “wet on wet” blending technique.

The carvers left with a greater appreciation for the creative design process and were pleased with the end results.
