Club Meeting March 28, 2017 @ Mar 29 2017

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM by Denis Miller. There were no visitors nor new members in attendance. Of course the treats were great.

Many pieces were displayed for the show and tell. Charlie King has been busy turning and carving as evidenced by his display of several well done canes. Other items in the show and tell included caricatures, relief carvings, wood burning, cottonwood bark, and a large school of fish.

The fish carving contest went well with many entries. After the first ballot there was a three way tie for first place. Laura, Barbara, and Bob F. all tied for member's choice. A second ballot was conducted and Barbara came out on top. Barbara won the knife generously donated by Everett Carter. The second place winners, Laura and Bob F, received Dairy Queen gift certificates.

Lou Wakefield gave an excellent presentation on how to layout, carve, and finish a Southwest or Western themed carving. The presentation covered all aspects of the process from start to finish including obtaining the wood, preparing the wood, laying out the pattern, carving, painting, finishing, and hanging the finished piece. Well done Lou!

Bob Curtis announced that the Oregon Decoy and Wildfowl Guild has the Craft Room at the Center 50+ reserved for carving each last Saturday of the month from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The Guild does not use all the space so they invited our Club members to attend open carving on these Saturdays.

The meeting adjourned at 8:45 PM.
