September 27, 2016 Club Meeting @ Oct 01 2016

The meeting was called to order by Jack Dalton at 7:00PM. Attendance was lower than normal. Although noone had signed up for treats there was no shortage because many attendees brought goodies to share.

The Club has signed up for the annual OSU Extension Holiday Fair at the Polk County Fairgrounds in Rickreall. This is an annual fund raising event for our club where we sell member donated Christmas ornaments. The Fair will be November 4 and 5 at 9:00AM - 5:00PM both days. Thank you to all our members who are donating ornaments this year. Please give your ornaments to Dave Disselbrett by the October club meeting if you have not already done so. And please come out to the Fair to visit us.

Jack reported that the August club picnic was a success and a good time was had by all who attended. The food was excellent. Hopefully more members will be able to participate next year.

The club's participation at the State Fair was successful. Many people stopped by the club's booth. It only remains to see how many new members we get because of the Fair. Thank you to all the volunteers who manned the booth.

Dave Disselbrett and Everett Koontz hosted a great 2016 Oregon Woodcarvers Rendezvous. Participation was great, classes were excellent, and the food was outstanding. A tentative class list has been posted on our club web site for the 2017 Oregon Rendezvous. People have already signed up for some of the planned classes so get your reservation in early. Start planning for this great event.

Don't forget that our club elections are coming up at our November meeting. If you would like to nominate someone or be nominated for a position please let a board member know. There will be a pot luck dinner at 6:00PM prior to the November meeting followed at 7:00 by the regular meeting and elections.

The wood draw was outstanding. We went through the list twice and then opened it up to everyone to take some wood. Thank you to all who donated wood.

Dave Disselbrett gave a demonstration about carving a face on the corner of a block. His demo was easy to follow and resulted in a face that looked symentrical and not flat like many of the faces we do. Dave pointed out that to do a face on the corner the block should be square not rectangular otherwise the face will be skewed to the side.

See you all at the October meeting.
